Children’s Well-Being ‘Mana Atua’ Yoga Practices Integrating Mind, Body Health

The morning will cover:

  • Demonstrating how to implement yoga with children;
  • Participants joining in practical, non competitive yoga expression and poses that acknowledge our bodies and health;
  • A focus on intellectual and emotional IQ;
  • Acknowledging the values of perseverence, courage, kindness, self control, communication, respect, thankfulness and honesty;
  • Integrating mind and body connections for young children using basic postures, breathing exercises, relaxation; assisting both exuberant and reserved children to focus and balance.

 

The afternoon will include:

  • Cultural health perspectives and well-being (Te Whāriki and The NZ Curriculum);
  • Introduction to natural and wholesome approaches;
  • Positive strategies for well-being integration in ECE and school programmes;
  • Mindfulness – connecting mind, body and soul in peaceful and ambient settings;
  • Theory and direction behind yoga practices.

This course links to the strands of Te Whāriki and to The NZ Curriculum.

Course Preparation: Please wear flexible clothing; previous yoga experience is not necessary. Yoga mats are provided at the course.
